Originaire du Morbihan, le nom est aujourd'hui surtout porté en Loire-Atlantique. Sens incertain. Peut-être une variante de Gleyo (voir ce nom). A envisager aussi le mot "greioù" avec le sens de troupeau de brebis, ou encore "grei" (= accoutrement).
